You are Next

by Katia Lief
Detective
Karin Schaeffer did her job… and it cost her everything. Serial killer
Martin Price (also known as JPP for “Just Plain Psycho”) targeted her
family after her involvement led to his arrest. JPP escaped and the
Domino Killer destroyed her family, leaving her behind to just barely
go through the motions of surviving. Unfortunately, the game isn’t yet
done for JPP. Will Karin choose to fight or will she give up when this
serial killer once again targets those closest to her?
YOU ARE NEXT is a dark, sometimes disturbing book that shows a woman on
the brink of suicide. Karin’s depression permeates the storyline adding
a sense of horror to the already tragic murder of her husband and
daughter. Katia Lief does a phenomenal job at portraying Karin’s
depression while also showing the inner core of strength that enables
her to keep fighting back, even as her world turns to chaos. It’s hard
not to hope for a happy ending for Karin although the reader senses
early on that this is not going to be a light, romantic suspense tale.
Katia Lief creates multidimensional characters who will resonate with
readers. She incorporates Karin’s survival and struggle to live again
into the storyline quite well. Karin is not a simplistic woman solely
bent on revenge. Rather, she is a woman on the brink of life or death,
choosing which route she will follow. Her friends, family, and
therapist provide a realistic portrait of a support system while her
own actions and reactions are quite believable. It is Karin’s journey
that makes YOU ARE NEXT such a powerful tale. Bravo!
