Trader of Secrets
Steve Martini
Fast-paced, action filled summer reading
Lawyer
Paul Madriani has his eyes on Muerte Liquida, an infamous assassin
whose desire for revenge makes him a threat. His daughter may
have evaded the deadly killer, but is she really safe on the farm in
Ohio? Meanwhile two NASA scientists go missing. As Paul
Madriani, companion Joselyn Cole, and law partner, Harry Hinds track
down Liquida, their quest takes them right into the center of an
international terror plot. While American authorities chase two
missing NASA scientists, their search crosses the path of Madriani and
company. A mad hunt from Washington, DC, California, Bangkok,
Paris and Mexico ensues as Madriani hunts Liquida and by extension a
scientist known as the trader of secrets before a terrifying weapon can
destroy the world.
TRADER OF SECRETS can be read as stand alone but is is best read
alongside the previous books, RULE OF NINE and GUARDIAN OF LIES, the
previous books featuring the Mexicutioner, Muerte Liquida.
Readers accustomed to the author's previous courtroom books will find
the new direction unsettling although perhaps the current Muerte
Liquida books will bring Paul Madriani to new readers. Paul
Madriani is an intriguing character as is his daughter. Even the
dog adds a nice touch. Madriani's personal goals to hunt down Liquida
lead him into a much bigger plot than he imagined. Authorities
chase him as much as the scientist in order to get clues into their own
case. For some reason, Madriani seems closer to their goal even
though their sources tell them the target is not there.
Certainly, the characterization in TRADER OF SECRETS makes this
reader curious to explore the previous books that center more on the
law and courtroom.
TRADER OF SECRETS is a fast paced, action filled, fun romp
that places a defense attorney in the heart of an international terror
plot. Steve Martini takes news headlines and from them, creates a
terrifying scenario of science turned into weaponized agents of mass
destruction. Short chapters make TRADER OF SECRETS a perfect fun
summer reading --- easy to put down and pick up again. The plot is not
necessarily believable but it still makes for fun, light thriller
reading. The reader is not bogged down with heavy science or
heavy description --- just enough to stir the imagination to question
past news headlines in what if scenarios. The hunt leads to an
action-packed, guns-blazing show-down. Martini creates a
terrifying villain in the character of Muerte Liquida, a man who takes
pleasure in his profession. Several surprising twists come
together as the case races to its conclusion. TRADER OF SECRETS
is entertaining thriller to take a reader away from the daily demands
of real life.
