To Serve a King

by Donna Russo Morin
Just
one lie can change an entire life’s course….
Geneviève Gravois has been trained all her life to bring down
the man who murdered her parents… Francois I, the King of France. She’s
been taught how to spy, from deciphering codes to how to handle
weapons. The only thing she hasn’t been taught is the truth. Will her
entry into King Francois’ court teach her love, friendship, and the
truth behind her parents’ deaths or will she complete her deadly
mission?
Donna Russo Morin incorporates a fictional story into the midst of
history with spectacular results! While the character of
Geneviève is drawn purely from the author’s imagination, her
tale fits nicely into the intrigues of the time period. Danger lurks at
every corner as Geneviève is torn between her role as a spy and
her blossoming friendship with those she seeks to destroy. The
appearance of the mystical Madame Arceneau only accentuates the tension
as Geneviève’s world becomes increasingly perilous.
Geneviève is a prickly but admirable character. Her sense of
self and purpose have been taught to her from infancy and yet she
hasn’t hardened emotionally as her aunt has done. Instead, TO SERVE A
KING shows us a sense of awakening in Geneviève as she learns
who she is regardless of her heritage. Donna Russo Morin does a superb
job with developing her character and showing us her emotional growth.
TO SERVE A KING is beautifully envisioned! The reader is drawn into the
sights, sounds, and flavors of the time period through the author’s
exquisite language and attention to detail. Donna Russo Morin excels
yet again at bringing history to life with her latest tale, TO SERVE A
KING. Bravo!
