Nightwalkers
by Keith Kekic
Who walks the
night?
Losing his father changed everything for the teenage boy. Now, he
drifts along through his sophomore year in school, listlessly surviving
until he discovers the night. One night, one chance meeting with a girl
and suddenly the night seems alive and full of promise. But what will
it cost him to be one of the NIGHTWALKERS? Is he willing to pay the
price?
Keith Kekic crafts a world that is darkly compelling, drawing the
reader into a world in which the dark is the only friend of a young
teenager. Atmosphere is critical to the success of NIGHTWALKERS and
Kekic ensures that the tone is as dark as the night the teenager
inhabits.
NIGHTWALKERS is told through the first person narrative. The question
of the narrator’s reliability resonates throughout the story… and heck,
is part of the enjoyment of the storyline! Is his perception of the
young girl accurate? Does he truly see the danger lurking in every
corner? Is there a battle between the NIGHTWALKERS and Legion? Keith
Kekic does a marvelous job at keeping the reader in suspense. We hope,
we want to believe… and yet the question lingers as to whether it is
all in the mind of the young narrator.
NIGHTWALKERS is an alluring tale, one that makes the reader feel the
night world come alive. Keith Kekic shows us the world that lurks at
the edges of our vision, just out of sight and yet we sense it is
there. His choice of narrators is perfect for such an illusive world
and ramps up the tension in this clever tale. Bravo!
