Hip Hop Dog

by Chris Raschka
Illustrated by Vladimir Radunsky

A small dog searches for his place in the world. He feels lonely and rejected initially. However, through his musical hip hop montage of the world surrounding him, he finds his own sense of self-worth and realizes that he is just as important as the other dogs.

HIP HOP DOG is a fun tale that employs a musical beat to keep the pace moving. Chris Raschka and Vladimir Radunsky address the very real issue of confidence and need to belong that children often feel through the metaphor of the HIP HOP DOG. The visual images get progressively more upbeat and cheerful as the dog’s own mood lightens. Children will enjoy the interactive feel of the story as several of the pages require turning the book in a circle to read. HIP HOP DOG is an excellent book that can be used with children with low self-esteem or for parents to read to their children as the HIP HOP DOG also addresses issues like homelessness and hunger in a context children can understand.
