The Girl Who Chased the Moon

by Sarah Addison
Allen
Emily
Benedict arrives in Mullaby, North Carolina, after the death of her
mother, Dulcie Shelby. Her mother’s early years are a mystery to her
and one that only deepens as she meets the residents of Mullaby. From
her extraordinarily tall Grandfather Vance to her cake-baking neighbor,
Julia Winterson, Emily finds both comfort and questions. Win Coffey
intrigues her and seems surprised that she doesn’t know more about his
family. What secrets hide beneath the seemingly tranquil surface of
this small Southern town? And just what role did her mother play in the
history of Mullaby?
Sarah Addison Allen captures the quintessential essence of being
Southern. Her ability to sprinkle magic into her stories and make it
believable is part of the charm of her stories. Sarah Addison Allen
first enchanted me with her book, GARDEN SPELLS, and I had high hopes
for THE GIRL WHO CHASED THE MOON. I was not disappointed!
Mullaby is a delightfully quirky town, filled with eccentric residents
and a plethora of sights and sounds that make one want to visit and
perhaps even stay. Julia’s cakes are only part of the charm as Sarah
Addison Allen crafts a world in which magic is truly in the eye of the
beholder. Each element of the story is carefully blended in to create a
portrait of a world in which wallpaper can change at random and scents
have the power to enchant.
THE GIRL WHO CHASED THE MOON is a light read, but one that leaves the
reader hungering for more. I was truly saddened to turn the last page
as Sarah Addison Allen writes the sort of tale that keeps the reader
captivated till the very end. Simply beautiful!
